The New York Boys of Leather had an incredible freshman year, emerging as a true force in the city’s leather/fetish scene. The club – founded in November of 2005 and the city's newest leather brotherhood – grew from 5 founding members to 10 full brothers and over 20 associate members.
The club also raised thousands of dollars for worthy local and national charities including the Ali Forney Center, Queer People of Color, the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom, and Safer + Saner, by organizing semi-quarterly fundraisers at their monthly bar night (LOAD at the 9th Avenue Saloon on Third Saturdays), throwing a benefit car wash at the Eagle NYC, and volunteering at other groups' events. Charity aside, LOAD has become one of New York's most reliably hard-edged parties, serving the community by providing a much-desired new venue for going out – and having fun – in gear.
NYboL also pitched in at Mid-Atlantic Leather, the Leather Leadership Conference, Leather Pride Night, Folsom Street East, and the Ms. World Leather contest in Philadelphia. Excursions to Brooklyn and to Sandy Hook beach and a club-only Gay Pride party furthered the club's mission to provide social opportunities for all of New York's leatherboys.
In 2006, NYboL has grown into a fun-loving group of kinky people who are committed to building the leather community in New York.
